Why they wanna go to sky island

well story doesn't add up, as per logbook noland already visited skyisland, but as per noland's story later in arc, when he returned to find island, he couldn't find it because it was shot up to the sky because of knockup stream, and then he was prosecuted for lying, so he didn't go to sky island.
or is it i am missing something
